Precious Gem Heads 2016 Glenlogan Park Stakes Nominations

Henry Dwyer’s Robert Sangster Stakes winner in Adelaide last time out, Precious Gem headlines the nominations taken for Brisbane’s Glenlogan Park Stakes 2016 at Doomben Racecourse this weekend.

Open only to fillies and mares, the $150,000 Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) has this season attracted a bumper 21 nominations.

The headline early entry for the set weights plus penalties clash on Doomben 10,000 Day is Econsul six-year-old Precious Gem who, if accepted, will be shooting for her third win on the trot.

Two back she took out Caulfield’s Listed Anniversary Vase (1400m) in Melbourne before scoring the upset in Adelaide on May 7 with victory at 20/1 in Morphettville’s Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m).

Dwyer has the mare nominated for another feature in yet another state on Saturday, the Glenlogan Park Stakes possibly host to Precious Gem’s Queensland race debut.

Despite the high number of nominees, she is the sole last start winner nominated for the race won 12 months ago by Peace Force.

The Gerald Ryan-trained Bernardini mare Peace Force returns to defend her Glenlogan Park Stakes title this Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, the now six-year-old not having won another race since.

She came off a second in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Crown (1300m) to win last year’s Brisbane feature, a race she ran fourth in this year before a last start 10^th to Danish Twist at Scone in the Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) on May 14 when beaten 3.5 lengths.

Also out of Scone into the Glenlogan Park Stakes but off a more favourable run is the David Pfieffer-trained Easy Rocking seven-year-old Cradle Me.

A veteran of 48 starts she improved off her Hawkesbury Crown 11^th to cross third in Scone’s Listed Luskin Star (1300m) last Saturday when beaten only two lengths by the winner Cleary Innocent.

Pfieffer has also nominated for his lightly-raced filly Dixie Chick, the three-year-old daughter of Star Witness a winner of two of her five starts to date.

Her only Black-Type start to date however produced a disappointing 11^th to Handfast at Randwick on April 9 in the Listed South Pacific Classic (1400m) where she had a luckless run from a wide draw (13 of 15).

Another Dark Jewel Classic graduate meanwhile is the fourth-placed Dane Shadow five-year-old Just A Blur who won the Wagga Town Plate (1200m) the run before.

Also with multiple Glenlogan Park Stakes entries from Sydney is Chris Waller whose possible contingent is headlined by the returning Amicus.

A four-year-old daughter of Fastnet Rock, Amicus was last seen running third to Zanbagh in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill in late April.

Her latest win meanwhile was back in early February when narrowly holding off Press Report to take out the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) first-up.

She has a strong record of two wins and two thirds from five runs when resuming and has been brought-on fitness-wise with two Sydney trials.

Waller’s other two entries are Redoute’s Choice seven-year-old She’s Clean who ran fourth in this race last year defeated just a length in her third Doomben run and Telepathic first-up after a 10^th in the Emancipation Stakes.

With a better record at the Doomben track is Chris Anderson’s local Bradbury’s Luck four-year-old Elegant Composure who is two-from-three at the course.

Other notable entries include Gai Waterhouse’s Scone Inglis Guineas third placed filly Kimberley Star, Hawkesbury Crown and Dark Jewel Classic third placegetter Press Report, and Kristen Buchanan’s Two Blue.

A rising eight-year-old, Two Blue won the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) in Sydney in early April before a second in the Hawkesbury Crown two back.

Her latest run was her first at Doomben on May 14 in the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) when a brave fourth crossing only 1.5 lengths off the winner Malaguerra.

The John O’Shea-trained Ghisoni meanwhile is nominated for this weekend’s Brisbane elite level, the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m), but is more likely to be accepted for the Glenlogan.

The three-year-old daughter of Lonhro is a Group 2 winner and has taken out three of her five career runs, the young star last seen running a close fifth beaten only 1.3 lengths by Japonisme in Randwick’s Group 2 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint (1200m).
